Exclusive interview with Doc Roun Cee (SEP 2006)

Q: How did you first meet Kid Rock and what was the first thing you noticed in him that led you to believe he had what it takes to make it big in the music industry one day?

A: We met the day after he did a house party for my roommates cousin. Another friend and me went to his house, he turns these raggerty-ass turntables that he had and made them sound like a violin(he didn't have his Technic 1200's at the time). But you could tell this dude wasn't ordinary. And that's real. Around my way, DJ's were a dime a dozen, but white ones, at that time, that could compete with the niggas on the same level was rare.

Now me personally, I thought it was the next coming of the Beastie Boys(until Vanilla Ice fucked that all up). So when the nigga rap didn't work out, he went to his alternative, something he was fimilar with; "ROCK MUSIC." Although he couldn't stand his father, he took his work ethic with him and made it work. Kid Rock was a hustle horse, and didn't take rejection well or for an answer. Because of his attitude which was borderline arrogance, but more a high-level of confidence, that he let everyone know, this is what I was meant to do, and you could see it, too. You didn't think it would get as big, but you wasn't surprised that it did.

Q: What will you describe as being the most supportive and helpful thing you have done for Rock into helping him get exposure and be accepted by the rock/rap community?

A: Back in the day when he was down and out, he ran away from home, kept his shit at my crib, and laid his head wherever he could, let him know how much love I had for him. I don't wanna make it sound pyschic, but you just had a feeling that this dude was gonna be the shit one day. If it wasn't music, it was gonna be something, but his determination told him music. I just had his back in whatever he wanted to do.

Q: Can you share some of your favorite memories of the late Joe C?

A: To watch this little kid, who was really a grown man, inhale that much weed.

Q: If you had to pick one of your favorite hip hop songs for Kid Rock to cover on which one would it be and why?

A: Top Billin' by the Audio Two. He used to do shows with them back in New York, and Detroit and I've been trying to get him to cover it for his new album. He's at least thinking about it.

Q: Finally, do you have any current projects you would like to mention to our fans?

A: Doc Roun-Cee and The Blackman, new album, full hip hop band that can give The Roots a run(no shit, I'd put my band up against them any day) summer 2007. Check out myspace.com/ptwentertainment. I have a management company who's clients include myself, Richie Thumbz, Steve Wesley, and Wes Chill. Check it out. Also check out The Flask. That's Kenny Olson's new band(all the links you can get from my page).
